Autism testing typically involves a comprehensive evaluation process that includes various assessments, observations, and interviews.
These assessments may cover areas such as communication, social interaction, behavior, and sensory processing. We use the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), alongside other tests and questionnaires, in the assessment of ASD as it is the gold standard in the field.
During an autism evaluation for your child, you can expect:
1. Initial Consultation: An initial meeting where you discuss concerns, family history, & developmental milestones with the evaluating team.
2. Observations: Our psychologist will observe your child's behavior, interactions, and communication skills in various settings.
3. Interviews: You'll likely participate in interviews where you provide detailed information about your child's development, behaviors, and any concerns you have.
4. Questionnaires: You may be asked to fill out questionnaires about your child's behavior and development.
5. Assessments: Your child may undergo standardized assessments, such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), to evaluate social interaction, communication, and other relevant domains.
6. Feedback Session: After the evaluation, you'll receive feedback on the findings, including a discussion of the diagnosis, if applicable, and recommendations for interventions and support.
7. Collaborative Planning: You'll work with the evaluating team to create an intervention plan tailored to your child's needs, which may involve therapies, educational support, and other services.
8. Follow-Up: Depending on the results, you may have follow-up appointments to monitor your child's progress and adjust interventions as needed.
